Teen Suicide Nude descending staircase headless vinyl LP

Teen Suicide return with their seventh LP, Nude Descending Staircase Headless, released via Run For Cover Records. Written and recorded as a fully committed trio, the album marks a significant evolution for the band: their first full-length captured in a professional studio, their first to feature a dedicated drummer throughout, and their first built entirely on a collaborative songwriting process.

Originally formed in 2010 by Sam Ray, the project gradually evolved before solidifying into a full-time band in 2022 with the addition of Kitty Ray and drummer Niko Wood. On Nude Descending Staircase Headless, Sam and Kitty Ray work in close partnership, sharing both songwriting and vocal duties to deliver Teen Suicide’s most cohesive and unified record to date.

The album channels a restless creative drive shaped by grief and perseverance, weaving themes of death, rebirth, and hard-won joy into a body of work that situates the self within a broader, interconnected whole. Tracks such as “Idiot” stand out as stark, rock-driven statements—leaning into blunt, unflinching storytelling—while “Spiders,” led by Kitty Ray, introduces a darker, more incisive edge, expanding the emotional and thematic range of the record.

Musically, the band tap into the raw power and experimental spirit of late-’80s and ’90s alternative rock, with clear echoes of Nirvana, Radiohead, Shellac, and Helmet. These influences surface most vividly in the album’s heavier moments, where tracks like “Idiot” and “Spiders” emerge as modern rock standouts. Recent touring alongside Delta Sleep further signals the group’s growing affinity for math rock and heavier textures—elements that are integrated here with increased precision, weight, and confidence.
